Plant-Based Coloring Guide: Choose your dye

¿Do you have doubts about which plants your hair needs for natural dyeing? Before you start, consider how vegetable coloring works.

Unlike synthetic dyes, plant-based dyes do not break the hair structure to penetrate inside but rather deposit on the surface of the hair.

On one hand, the hair's base tone conditions the final result. On the other hand, the plant-based dye does not have a uniforming effect on the hair: highlights or grays are covered with a slightly lower tone than the rest of the hair.

The more you use natural coloring, the more pigment you will have deposited on the hair, providing better coverage.

Plants NEVER lighten the color of your hair. If you are brunette, you can never become blonde or achieve light highlights using plants. Similarly, if you have dark brown hair, you cannot achieve a light reddish tone.

Plant pigmentation is used to revive your natural tone, darken shades, or add color nuances.

Your hair needs water, fats, and nutrients to be healthy and to achieve vibrant and long-lasting color when applying natural dye. This step is crucial when transitioning from using synthetic dyes and/or aggressive hair treatments such as straightening or perms. In this case, before dyeing with a natural dye, we will need to reset and hydrate, steps 1 and 2 of our Henna Morena Method
