Conditioner or mask, which one to choose?

- 08/30/2022

Conditioners and masks are products that are often confused. But... are they the same in different formats? The answer is "No". And although some people do without one or the other, both are necessary in our hair routine.

How do they differ?

The conditioner is a daily use hair care product that serves to instantly restore moisture to the hair after every wash. It has a very light texture and the application time is short, so it can be used with every wash. The conditioner acts as a hair protector as it helps to keep the hair cuticle well hydrated, preventing flaking and thus preventing external agents from damaging the hair. For this reason it is an excellent product to keep hair free of frizz.

The mask has a formula rich in nutrients, so it serves to nourish and moisturise the hair more intensively, providing a shiny, soft and nourishing effect. This is a product that requires more time of application to deposit all its benefits on the hair fibre, as well as being constant in its use to notice the benefits in the medium and long term.

Can I use conditioner and mask in the same wash?

No, due to its smoothing effect on the hair cuticle. The silky result that remains on the hair after applying conditioner or mask happens because the cuticle is smoothed and closed. So, if we were to apply one product after the other, we would waste one of them.

When to apply each one?

Conditioner is usually linked to the frequency of shampooing. As a light and moisturising product, it serves to soften the hair after shampooing. Those of you with curly or dry hair can use it daily to condition your hair.

The mask is recommended to be used once a week. If necessary, in times of extreme temperatures or when the hair suffers (from chlorine, sea water, wind, sun, irons, hair dryers or other external agents) it can be applied twice a week.

Which conditioner is best for your hair?

Conditioner, that product you use every day but find so hard to choose. To find out which one is best for your hair, all you have to do is think about your needs. If you are new to the Zero Waste world or want to travel and don't have much space, choose the Coconut Conditioner Bar. Recommended for fine and straight hair, with a smoothing effect that is noticeable after rinsing.

If you are looking for a conditioner for daily use that is easy to apply, glides easily through the hair and has an instant effect, choose the Orange and Shea Detangler. This conditioner can also be left in the hair without rinsing, like a leave-in. That way, your hair will absorb its nutrients throughout the day.

Which mask is best for your hair?

A good hair mask doesn't always have to be thick. Depending on your hair type, you will need different ingredients. The Orange and Sage Mask is recommended for all hair types, especially fine hair. With a light formula that does not weigh hair down or affect its volume.

The Henna and Shea Mask is for dry hair, made with nourishing ingredients such as Shea Butter, Vitamin E, Rosehip Oil, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil or Henna Extract, it is an instant repairing treatment for the most damaged hair.

You know how, when and why you need to use conditioner or mask. Now it's time to try them out with knowledge and experience all their benefits.
