Curly method? Yes, with Henna Morena products

- 08/18/2022

At Henna Morena we are excited about curls. They are a reflection of naturalness, freedom and character, the same cocktail that moves us and that we want for your relationship with your hair.

More and more curlies are recovering the authenticity of their hair, they stop trying to tame it with aggressive straightening treatments, straighteners and hairdryers every day, and they are looking to plant-based cosmetics as an ally for the revival of their curls. Your hair is part of your identity, and the curly method is the process that will allow you to recover it.

The curly method consists of learning how to care for curly hair and paying attention to its particular needs, which means eliminating certain products with ingredients that do not benefit curly hair. Sulfates and silicones, chemical compounds that are deposited on the hair and cause oversaturation of the hair, leaving it dull and lacklustre, are avoided. Parabens and (ethyl) alcohols are also avoided and, of course, other treatments and routines that break the structure of the curl.

Did you know that all Henna Morena products can be used to follow the curly method?

How is curly hair?

The first thing is to differentiate between wavy and curly hair. While wavy hair has an "S" structure, curly hair is kinky or spring-shaped and can be more or less open.

The irregular shape of the hair fibre in curly hair means that the cuticle can lift slightly and thus the inner hair structure is more exposed. This makes it more fragile and vulnerable to external aggressions or the weather. It also makes it drier, because due to this irregular shape the natural oils secreted by the scalp do not glide well through the entire strand. The natural moisture stays in the roots and from the middle to the ends the hair is dehydrated, which results in frizziness.

For all these reasons, the curly method advises eliminating everything that dries out the hair (alcohols, synthetic dyes, straightening, blow-drying...), and looking for ways to moisturise the curl as much as possible as a basic care routine.

Which products are okay for curly method?

All of them! But each one has its moment and we tell you about it in this Henna Morena product guide that we have prepared for those of you who follow the curly method.

Washing products

The curly method is based on trying to restore the hair's curl by avoiding parabens, sulphates, silicones and (ethyl) alcohols, which are deposited in the hair, produce weight and therefore lose the natural curl.

Washing the hair with sulphate-free shampoos is alternated with the use of surfactant masks, massaging the scalp and roots, cleansing the hair, as well as occasional "reset" washes with clays or shampoos with sulphates to wash away the accumulation of products adhering to the hair structure.

- Clarifying shampoos: for the first wash of the curly method and subsequent "reset" washes, any of our solid shampoos as they contain Coco Sulfate and remove impurities and dirt in depth. You can also use Ghassoul Volcanic Clay for this reset.

- Sulphate free shampoos: our liquid shampoos are free of parabens, silicones and alcohols. The Honey & Orange shampoo is the most nourishing and therefore we recommend it for curly hair.

- Co-wash: our Ghassoul Volcanic Clay and the Henna and Shea mask.

Conditioning products

- Rinse-off conditioner or leave-in, choose following your preference: the Coconut conditioner bar or the Orange and Shea detangler.

- Fixing products and curl definer: el the Aloe Vera gel with Lavender and the Hydrating serum with Silicon and Jojoba

Hydrating products

Oil is a great ally of the curly method, because it moisturises intensely but its molecule does not accumulate so easily on the hair. A weekly hair oil mask allows you to deeply moisturise and nourish your hair, repairing damaged structures and preventing hair from becoming dry or damaged.

If you are not only restoring your curls but also leaving synthetic hair colouring behind, choose the Grape Seed and Petit Grain oil. If your hair is virgin or you are colouring with vegetable colouring, choose any of our almond-based oils. Our favourite for curlies is the Almond Oil with Henna Flower.

Hair treatments with plants

Colouring with plants is not only compatible, but also recommended for those of you who follow the curly method and want to dye your hair. Henna Morena's natural dyes, nourish and strengthen curly hair, without any synthetic compounds, as well as providing a natural peeling effect that slightly removes impurities from the hair.

If you are not looking for colouring, in plants you can also find treatments compatible with the curly method to strengthen, stimulate growth, stop hair loss, etc., such as Cassia Obovata, Walnut, powdered vegetable shampoo (Shikakai) or our hair rinses.

Following the curly method is the consequence of reconnecting with yourself and feeling empowered. Shall we accompany you in the magical process of recovering your hair identity?
