The Henna Morena Method: 5 steps to restore your hair

- 05/08/2023

We present you The Henna Morena Method, a definitive guide with the basic routines to teach you how to take care of your hair yourself.

Taking care of hair with plants is so easy that for some people it becomes complicated, because no one explained to us before that Nature itself was capable of giving us everything our hair needs. For years, we have been more concerned with transforming and changing our hair than connecting with it, understanding what it needs and respecting its nature. No one ever told us that we should seek its health first, and that beauty would be a consequence, and not the other way around.

Our goal is for you to reconnect with your hair and fall in love with it again. Let's unlearn what we have learned, to start together from scratch. Say goodbye to being lost and not knowing why your hair reacts with frizz to the cold, why your curls are blurred or why your hair is getting thinner.

Before we begin: what it is and what our hair is like

Do you know what your hair is like, and what are its characteristics and basic needs? Without knowing it we cannot give it the necessary care. Don't worry, we are not getting very technical, we want to explain it to you in a very simple way:

Each hair is born in a hair follicle, which is the skin structure that holds it to the scalp. Hair is 28% protein, 70% water, and 2% lipids, minerals, or trace elements. This protein is resistant and fibrous, and it is the same that we can find in the nails, it is called keratin and it is responsible for giving consistency and strength to the hair. Depending on the type of hair we were born with and our body, lifestyle and habits, hair may have some needs or others.

What happens when we apply synthetic treatments

One of the main problems is the use of synthetic products for years, which together with the toxins and dirt that our hair accumulates, suffocate and weaken it. What happens when we dye with synthetic dyes, abuse the hair iron or subject our hair to "miraculous" straightening? All these treatments modify the structure of the hair: they open and deteriorate the outer cuticle, its natural protective barrier, making it excessively porous and vulnerable to external damage, making it more sensitive to any aggression.

It's time to wipe the slate clean, to correct your hair care routines, to restart your hair habits.

The steps of the Henna Morena Method

You should keep two things in mind: one, that the hair transformation is not instantaneous. You will need perseverance and a little patience. Two, that although your hair needs a period of adaptation, from the beginning you will notice that the change has been worth it.

STEP 1: RESET

The first step of The Henna Morena Method is a thorough cleaning with quality soaps with sulfates that remove harmful substances from the hair and with an alkaline pH that opens the cuticle and leaves it receptive to subsequent treatments with plants.

To do this, you are going to start using one of our 5 shampoo bars, with a natural sulfate from coconut Very effective when it comes to removing the remains of dirt and toxins, and with a high pH to open the outer layer of the hair, leaving it permeable for plants to penetrate inside.

Choose yours according to your hair type: Green Tea shampoo bar, Coconut shampoo bar, Cocoa and Shea shampoo bar, Juniper and Grapefruit shampoo bar.

STEP 2: INTENSIVE HYDRATION

The Henna Morena Method now reaches a vital and non-negotiable moment: after the initial reset of the wash, our hair needs to reinforce its basic hydration with intensive hydration from the inside of the hair, and we will achieve that with vegetable fats

On the one hand, it is essential to always use -after each wash- our conditioners and post-wash masks, made with moisturizing and repairing ingredients, which will seal the cuticle and They will leave hair silky and easy to comb. We have the Orange and Shea Conditioner and these two masks. You can use the conditioner after each wash, and the mask once a week. If you want to know more about this step, go to here.

At the same time, your hair probably needs a higher level of hydration. Hair oils and Shea butter are essential fats to repair the hair cuticle and prevent its natural dehydration caused by external aggressions such as cold, sun , humidity or synthetic products. Applied to dry hair, from the scalp to the ends, they rebuild the hair fiber from the inside and prevent water loss from the hair, eliminating frizz and achieving spectacular shine and silkiness.

To do this, you should get a treatment weekly or every two weeks, with oil. Depending on your hair type, you should choose between the 5 references of hair oils. And if you want extra hydration, you can add a bit of Shea butter to the mask.

This step is important for all types of hair. But it is absolutely vital when hair is already suffering from frizz or extreme dryness and brittleness.

STEP 3: TREATMENT

Once the hair is clean and hydrated, it is time to feed it well: nutrition. The plant powder treatments and minerals (powder or liquid) need the hair cuticle to be repaired, to counteract its astringent effect and take advantage of all its benefits. Take a look at the 4 powder treatments that we have and choose the one that best suits your type of hair and needs.

If your hair is damaged, with split ends or bleached (for example), and you have not done the previous step (1) of resetting and (2) hydration, do not continue with The Brown Henna Method because the hair is not prepared to absorb plant nutrients.

To remove plant poultices, wash your hair with one of our 4 liquid shampoos sulfates-free, that will help you remove the remains of product from your hair, sealing the cuticle without leaving residue on your hair.

STEP 4: VEGETABLE COLORING

Your hair is now ready to use one of our vegetable coloring products (if you weren't thinking of changing your hair color, you can skip to Step 5). However, you should know that our vegetable coloring products are not simple dyes, but are 100% plant formulas designed to pigment and nourish the hair.

How does vegetable pigmentation work? Traditional dyes work by generating a chemical reaction that breaks the hair fibers of the hair cuticle, to reach its cortex and thus modify a color change through the oxidation. On the other hand, the vegetal coloration acts by deposit. What does it mean? That the pigments adhere or deposit on the cuticle, the outer part of the hair, respecting the hair fibers. The pigmentation will occur over the natural color of your hair. As there is no oxidation, it is not possible to lighten the color.

The more times you use synthetic coloring, the more you weaken and damage your hair. However, with vegetal coloring the opposite is true: the more times you apply the vegetal coloration, the more gray hair coverage, the more shine and the more density you achieve. Also, by repairing the cuticle, you counteract the damage caused by the sun, pollution, bleaching or peroxide. Our range of vegetable coloring is made up of 10 plant formulas that provide different pigments, and the result will depend on the color natural on which you apply them.

As with poultices, it is important that to remove the dye you wash your hair thoroughly with a sulfate-free liquid shampoo, which will help you remove plant remains from your hair, sealing the cuticle without leaving residue on your hair

STEP 5: FINISHING

The fifth and final step is dedicated to finishing the hairstyle. Actually, you can incorporate this step from the beginning, as these are finishing products that will help you polish your hair after every wash. In addition to defining the hair, they are rich in nutrients, moisturise, make styling easier and provide the hair with defences. They are the protectors against premature hair ageing.

NEEDS: If you're looking to polish your hair, add shine and control frizz, choose this Serum. If you have wavy or curly hair and want definition, choose the Lavender and Aloe Vera Gel. If you also like to do updos and want to define your hairstyle, choose the Aloe Vera with Xanthan Gum Gel.

You have reached the end of The Henna Morena Method, a methodology that aims to regain control over your hair, teach you how to take care of it yourself at home and that you fall in love with him again. Welcome to the plant revolution.
