If I wear chemical dye... Can I use Henna or another vegetable coloring?

- 06/18/2020

Well, yes, you can. However, it is important what kind of dye. And remember: the result will depend on the dye and the condition of your hair.

For a long time we have heard many myths about Henna and dyes. What if after a dye, you smell them

1- If the tint it is ecological nor does it contain ammonia go ahead, you can use Henna or another vegetable coloring formula the same day you dye it. And why do it, you say? You see, what the ecological dye does is cover the hair of the same tone, including gray hair. The Henna, applied afterwards, it will be like an energy and vitamin treatment that will give it a lot of shine, as well as a shade or tone (depending on the vegetable coloring products you choose). If it is Henna, it will give it a nice coppery hue, as well as taking care of the hair, enhancing shine and volume.

2- If the dye is called "synthetic" dye, with ammonia but without bleaching ingredients, you must leave at least two weeks from your last application to the application of the Henna. Ammonia is an alkaline ingredient that lifts the hair cuticle and allows the dye to penetrate inside in an aggressive way. You have to let the hair recover for the natural pigments to act. Otherwise, what can happen is that the Henna does not pigment the hair enough and you do not notice its color or that the tone suffers alterations.

How to help the hair to be deeply hydrated, before proceeding with vegetable coloring? Once a week do a capillary bath with first cold pressure oil. Our favorite oils: Almond Oil with Jasmine and Orange Blossom aroma, Almond Oil with Henna Flower aroma or Grapeseed and Petit Grain Oil. They will hydrate you deeply, regenerating the hair cuticle, which will allow the henna to pigment much better.

3- If you have used dyes to bleach your hair, we advise you not to use henna immediately. You should leave at least a couple of months until its application, and we always recommend making an initial ecological dye to get an approximate tone to your base color, if what you want is to "start from scratch" with your hair.

The reason is that Henna and dyes made 100% with plants, always dye depending on the base color you have, working as if it were a varnish with color that dyes on a wood.

These hair tends to be very malnourished, dry and demineralized, so it is absolutely recommended to follow the steps of the Henna Morena Method, our 5-step routine to guide you in the transition from synthetic dyes to vegetable dyes. Again, botanical oils will be key but not the only thing you will need to give to your hair before applying Henna.

4- If you have applied a coloring spray to cover the roots of gray hair, before applying the Henna, you have to remove it. How? Brushing your hair or washing it with your usual shampoo several times. If you have a lot of gray roots and you previously dyed with ammonia dye, you will need to apply an eco-friendly starter dye to get an approximate shade of your base color. The steps will be the same as we have explained in point 3.

Lose your fear of vegetable coloring and ally yourself with it to replace synthetic dye or to complement it.
