Hair nutrition in times of climate change

- 02/04/2021

Climate change mode on. It also affects our hair. We live in a time when it's hot one week and cold the next. What can we do to prevent our hair from suffering from sudden changes in temperature?

Shea butter, honey or oil are three incredibly nourishing and fatty raw materials that will provide all the elements for hair to be healthy and strong against the variations of the weather.

Shea butter is a highly valued butter in Africa, known as the golden fruit. It has a high vitamin A, D and F content and also contains lupeol. It is very moisturising, it is used to relieve itching, it is anti-inflammatory and very softening. It is especially recommended for curly, dry or damaged hair due to the use of synthetic dyes. However, we do not recommend it if you have very fine hair.

How is it used? We can use it as a tip wax, as a hair mask or by mixing it with henna if our hair requires it.

RECIPE 1

Ingredients:

Shea butter

Almond and Lavender oil

Take a 30g piece of shea butter and melt it in a bain-marie (about 15ml). Once it has become liquid, add two tablespoons of almond and lavender oil. Mix well until everything is homogeneous. Apply the mask to dry hair and leave it on for 1 hour. Then shampoo your hair to remove the oil that has not been absorbed by your hair.

Resultao: soft, moisturised, shiny hair and, if you're curly, you'll have more defined curls without frizz.

Honey is a highly nutritious, antibacterial, antioxidant and hair softening food. It is a food used ancestrally in cosmetics, rich in vitamins, minerals, glucose, proteins and amino acids, which is why we recommend it for deeply nourishing hair.

How is it used? In dry or very damaged hair it can be used for washing (as a shampoo), it is also a good hair mask to which you can mix some first cold-pressed oil. It can also be added to any plant poultice (especially recommended for fragile, weakened or very dry hair).

RECIPE 2

Ingredients:

Cassia Obovata

Lavender and Orange Blossom infusion

Honey

Almond and Lavender oil

Prepare a Cassia Obovata poultice by adding 500 ml of Lavender and Orange Blossom Infusion. Once you have a chocolate texture (no lumps), add two tablespoons of honey and a tablespoon of Almond Lavender Oil.

Result: extra nourished, shiny and fluffy hair, thanks to the moisturising effect of this mixture.

Oil is one of the most prized foods in the Mediterranean since ancient times. Through the first pressing of the fruit we collect all its vitamins and healthy fats for hair and skin. The oil is the conductive vehicle that goes through the hair fibre and deposits all its vitamins and minerals inside the hair.

How is it used? We can use oil masks to restore the hair fibre after being exposed to synthetic dyes, to keep hair healthy and well hydrated, to prevent or repair split ends or to prepare our plant poultices. As you can see, it's all in one!

RECIPE 3

Ingredients:

Aloe and Lavender gel

Almond and Myrrh oil

Pour two tablespoons of Aloe Lavender Gel into a bowl and add two tablespoons of Almond Myrrh Oil. Apply the mixture to damp hair and leave it on for 1 hour. Afterwards, wash your hair with your usual shampoo.

Result: If your hair tends to dry out a lot, this is the recipe for you. With the addition of these moisturising agents, your hair will feel very soft and you will control frizz.
