Radiant Sun, Vibrant Color
Heat, sun, saltwater from the sea, and chlorine from swimming pools affect the vibrancy of color and texture of hair, especially if it is dyed. How can you protect it to keep the color vibrant and healthy throughout the summer? Certainly, with good products that keep it permanently hydrated, but also by considering some habits and tricks that will allow you to show off vibrant color until autumn.
PROTECT YOUR HAIR WITH HATS OR KERCHIEF.
UV radiation from the sun degrades melanin, causing colors to fade or lighten. This occurs in both dyed and undyed hair, but it is much more evident in colored hair, as the pigments are more susceptible to fading from the sun.
To protect your hair, it's important to wear hats or scarves when you're outdoors and apply products with specific UV protection for hair. Additionally, after sun exposure, use a reparative serum to nourish and protect your mane, like our Silicon and Jojoba Serum.
AFTER SWIMMING IN THE POOL OR SEA, RINSE WITH FRESH WATER.
The chlorine in swimming pools can react with the minerals in the water and hair, causing color changes, such as a greenish tint in blonde hair. Saltwater dries out the hair a lot, and after swimming in the sea, you need to give it extra hydration to prevent the cuticle from deteriorating or changing.
Therefore, after swimming in a pool or the sea, rinse your hair with fresh water immediately afterward. This will help remove the salt and chlorine residues that can damage your hair color. Complement this care by using a mild shampoo (like our range of Liquid Shampoos) and our Orange and Shea Detangling Conditioner after rinsing, alternating it with the Sage and Lavender Mask if you have fine hair, or the Henna and Shea Mask if you have dry and thick hair.
EXPRESS HYDRATION AFTER WASHING.
Hydration and protection are key to long-lasting color. So increasing the frequency of hydration is vital, especially the one provided by the weekly application of Cold-Pressed Hair Oils. In summer, we recommend the Grape Seed and Petitgrain Oil because it has a lighter fat molecule and greater absorption capacity.
On the other hand, avoid using products with harsh ingredients in their formulation, especially if your hair is blonde or light-toned, because they weaken the hair and leave it more exposed to UV radiation.
INTENSIVE HYDRATION REQUIRED ONCE A WEEK
We’re not usually into quick routines, but if your hair is very dry, lifeless, and the color is dull, dive right into our Overnight Regenerating Serum. Applied to dry hair from mid-lengths to ends, and excess removed with shampoo the morning after application, it will repair your mane magically in 2 or 3 uses.
IF YOU USE PLANT-BASED HAIR DYE, STRENGTHEN THE TREATMENT WITH HERBAL INFUSIONS
Once again, hydration is key. Do not apply plant-based color if your hair is dehydrated or very dry. First things first, so a couple of days before, do a hydration treatment with oils.
Also, at the time of dye preparation, in addition to using an infusion of plants, don't forget to add 3 or 4 tablespoons of oil, which helps improve the color's adherence to the cuticle. Additionally, apply the dye generously, especially to roots and grays, and cover your hair with plastic wrap to maintain moisture and allow the dye to penetrate better.
