Shea butter: a solid aftersun that hydrates and reduces inflammation.

- 08/07/2024

Shea butter is rich in fatty acids, vitamins A, E, and phytosterols, making it one of nature's great treasures with high anti-inflammatory and cell regeneration capabilities.

Shea butter is a vegetable fat obtained from the fruit of the shea tree, which grows mainly in the savannas of West and Central Africa. The name "shea" means "butter tree" in the Mandingo language, and the production of the butter remains, to this day, a completely artisanal process carried out by thousands of women. In the case of Henna Morena, it is the result of a collaboration with a Women's Association in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and comes to us pure, 100% natural, and solid in the form of a 300 g bar or a 150 g bar.

Shea butter is rich in fatty acids, especially Omegas 6 and 9, and contains vitamins A, E, and phytosterols, making it one of nature's greatest treasures for both skin and hair.

But... why do we say it’s a great aftersun? Because of its extraordinary ability to repair and regenerate cells, as well as its high anti-inflammatory capacity.

Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids protect skin cells, improve elasticity, and keep it hydrated, soft, and smooth from the first application. Additionally, shea butter is full of Lupeol, a natural anti-inflammatory perfect for after a day in the sun, ideal for skin that reddens easily or has allergies. And while it does not replace conventional sunscreens, Shea Butter contains a natural protection factor that helps prevent sunburn and promotes cell regeneration of sun-damaged skin.

BENEFITS OF SHEA BUTTER

- Hydrating: Provides intense hydration, especially effective for dry and cracked skin. It absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue.

- Nourishing: Its richness in lipids makes it ideal for nourishing both skin and hair, helping to restore the skin barrier and strengthen the hair fiber.

- Anti-inflammatory and soothing: Used to relieve irritations, insect bites, and sunburn, thanks to its soothing properties.

- Healing: Promotes cell regeneration, which can improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

- Antioxidant: Contains antioxidants that help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, contributing to a youthful appearance.

- Protective: Naturally protects the skin from the sun (equivalent to SPF 6 to 15).

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF SHEA BUTTER, THE MULTI-PURPOSE COSMETIC?

Skin repair after a day at the beach or pool

After a day full of water, sun, sand, sea, salt, and chlorine, your skin needs hydration and care. Apply our After Sun to restore its elasticity and softness. Perfect for post-sun care!

Intensive hydration for dry skin in winter

The cold can be very harsh on the skin, leaving it dry and rough. Use shea butter for deep hydration and to keep your skin soft and protected against low temperatures.

Solid hydration after the gym

Sweat and frequent showers can dry out the skin. Apply our After Sun after working out to keep your skin hydrated and rejuvenated.

Say goodbye to cracked hands and feet

Hands and feet are often the most exposed and damaged parts of the body. Apply shea butter to these areas to heal and prevent cracks, keeping them soft and flexible. It’s also an exceptional lip balm!

Prevent stretch marks (including during pregnancy)

If your weight fluctuations often cause stretch marks, it’s because the skin lacks the elasticity it should have. Applied daily, shea butter restores elasticity and prevents dreaded stretch marks. Therefore, it’s also perfect for expectant mothers, helping to prevent and reduce stretch marks, keeping the skin elastic and hydrated.

Eye contour

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it’s an excellent eye contour: apply a generous layer around the eyes and let it work while you sleep. You’ll wake up with fresher, more rested skin.

Post-shave calm

Both for men and women, shea butter is ideal for soothing and hydrating the skin after shaving, reducing irritation and preventing redness.

Care for very dry or curly hair

Yes, it’s also a 10 for hair, especially if your hair is very dry and curly. After a day in the sun and sea, and with clean, dry hair, apply a little to the ends to nourish and hydrate your mane, leaving it soft and shiny. You can also use it for hair masks, applying it as you would with hair oil (you’ll need to melt it in a double boiler). We explain how below.

Dry scalp

If you suffer from a dry scalp or dandruff, a gentle massage with shea butter can help hydrate and soothe the skin, reducing flaking.

Sensitive or allergy-prone skin

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, shea butter is perfect for skin that easily irritates or suffers from allergies.

For our shea butter, we chose a PP container, an eco-sustainable, recyclable plastic material free of bisphenol A, non-toxic, and resistant to high temperatures, reducing environmental impact. And its beautiful bag is, again, a collaboration with a textile workshop in Burkina Faso, managed as a cooperative.

HOW TO APPLY SHEA BUTTER ON SKIN AND HAIR?

On the skin

After spending time in the sun or a refreshing shower, make sure your skin is clean and free of dirt, chlorine, or salt so shea butter can work its magic. Break off a small piece of the butter and rub it onto your skin, letting the natural heat help it melt and spread well. You don't need a lot, a portion the size of a hazelnut is enough for almost your entire body. If you apply it regularly, you will notice a spectacular change in elasticity naturally.

It's ideal for elbows, feet, hands, and nails (yes, it strengthens nails!). And for an extra touch of care, use it around your eyes before sleeping. You will feel how it soothes and regenerates your skin almost miraculously. You'll fall in love!

For hair

If you have thick, very dry, and/or very curly hair, a shea butter bath will restore its hydration. To do this, you'll need to melt the shea butter in a double boiler and apply it as if it were oil, from the scalp to the ends, without fear. Let it act for a few hours (we advise leaving it on all night) so that the hair absorbs the vegetable fat it needs. Then, remove the excess fat with your usual shampoo. And... voilà! a new mane.

Break your shea butter into pieces, keep a portion in a small tin. That way, you can carry it in your bag and apply it to your lips, hands, or whenever you need extra hydration.
